The Mill Basin-Bergen Beach Lions Club is a civic organization whose primary mission is to enhance the quality of life for the less fortunate in our community. A member of Lions International, we bring world renowned eyesight and hearing programs to the Brooklyn community, along with scores of local programs that touch the lives of many local residents.

Our motto is "We Serve". Lions Clubs focus on programs related to sight conservation, hearing and speech conservation, diabetes awareness, youth outreach, international relations, environmental issues, and other programs that support the local communities where we live. We are also passionate about developing effective leadership skills in their members and have an extensive leadership development program including an online Lions Learning Center and several leadership institutes.

Melvin Jones
1879-1961

The International Association of Lions Clubs began as the dream of Chicago businessman Melvin Jones. He believed that local business clubs should expand their horizons from purely professional concerns to the betterment of their communities and the world at large. Jones' group, the Business Circle of Chicago, agreed. After contacting similar groups around the United States, an organizational meeting was held on June 7, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The new group took the name of one of the invited groups, the "Association of Lions Clubs," and a national convention was held in Dallas, Texas, USA in October of that year. A constitution, by-laws, objects and code of ethics were approved.

Jones asked, with regard to his colleagues, "What if these men who are successful because of their drive, intelligence and ambition, were to put their talents to work improving their communities?" Jones' personal code, "You can't get very far until you start doing something for somebody else," reminds many Lions of the importance of community service.

The Lions member is at the center of the organization. Membership is by invitation, though dedicated individuals are rarely turned away, and regular attendance at meetings is expected.

Meetings are held at 8:00 PM, every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the Month September through June. Meeting are held at:
